- GST Registration: Irrespective of their annual turnover, e-commerce sellers in India must obtain GST registration. For businesses operating in special category states, the threshold limit for registration is Rs. 20 lakhs, while for others, it’s Rs. 40 lakhs. Once registered, they must prominently display their GSTIN (GST Identification Number) on their website and all invoices.
- Collection and Payment of GST: E-commerce sellers are responsible for collecting GST on the supplies they make. This collected GST must then be remitted to the government within the stipulated time frame. The applicable rate of GST varies depending on the type of products sold and the nature of the business.
- Filing of GST Returns: Regular filing of GST returns is mandatory for e-commerce sellers. The frequency of filing depends on their turnover. GSTR-1 is filed to report outward supplies, while GSTR-3B summarizes sales, purchases, and tax liabilities.
- Tax Collected at Source (TCS): E-commerce operators are required to collect TCS at a rate of 1% from sellers for taxable supplies made through their platforms. This TCS must be deposited with the government and reported in the operator’s GSTR-8 return.

- Visit the GST Portal: Head to the official GST portal at www.gst.gov.in.
- Navigate to Services: Click on the “Services” tab on the home page and select “Registration.”
